You will operate instrumentation systems, including military radar unit systems and terminal/tower systems.
You will be responsible for live action judgement and decision making, with high stress situations including managing multiple aircraft vehicles within very close proximity in airspace unexpectedly and simultaneously.
You will interface with FAA, Air Force, and local airport officials to coordinate range testing airspace requirements and enhance flying safety.
You will ensure that all controllers meet and maintain published requirements for currency on each applicable qualified operating position.
You will formulate and relay clearances and advisory data to aircraft operating within assigned area of jurisdiction.
You will maintain continual surveillance and operation of airport movement surfaces to ensure pedestrian, vehicle and aircraft compliance with operating rules.
Must be a US Citizen.
Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Generally, current federal employees applying for STRL jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower level.
Candidates for ATC positions must not have reached their 36th birthday by date of appointment.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Air traffic control specialists must possess the facility ratings required at the facility where the position is located.
Within the Department of Defense, the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
MSP/PPP applicants must currently hold the required security clearance.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Military Radar Unit (MRU) Controller certification.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Test Controller (TC) certification.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
(DS-04): Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9/10) or pay band (DS-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience includes the following: 1) Independently directing aircraft within restricted and special-use airspace; 2) Utilizing radar and monitoring systems; 4) Advising on and applying FAA and military regulations to air traffic control operations; 5) Effectively communicating with aircrews and ground control to make real-time decisions in a dynamic environment; 6) Advising and coordinating with multiple agencies during complex flight operations or test missions.
(DS-03): Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9/10) or pay band (DS-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
